ReNEW is seeking a Social Worker/Counselor that will report to the Manager of Mental Health Services and their School Director. The Social Worker/Counselor will perform a wide variety of administrative and clinical duties relative to the overall activities of the clinical and special education programs at the school building level.

This position is established to serve as part of a team of support of all students enrolled in a PK-8 public school with a specific focus on students with exceptionalities. It is expected that the school-based Social Worker/Counselor will fulfill the following:

  • Provide individual and small group counseling services to students with exceptionalities and general education students as assigned. Provide crisis support as needed.

  • Support the social emotional and behavioral needs of students with exceptionalities by collaborating as an equal member of the IEP team regarding identification, eligibility and integrated service delivery.

  • Serve as a member of the pupil appraisal team, participate in eligibility meetings, initial evaluation and re-evaluation meetings as needed.

  • Coordinate Functional Behavior Assessments and the development of Behavior Intervention Plans for students with exceptionalities.

  • Utilize research based and culturally sensitive related services to provide goal directed interventions and support to students.

  • Responsible for completion of paperwork required for the delivery of services using the electronic database specified by the school district, such as SER, Accelify, School Runner, PowerSchool, etc.; completion of service logs, progress reports, IEPs, progress notes, Medicaid reimbursement forms, social histories, and any other paperwork designated by the school district.

  • Responsible for assisting both general education and special education staff with the development and implementation of appropriate student, classroom, and school wide behavior management interventions.

  • Maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to the provision of special education services.

  • Collaborate with students, parents, special and general education staff, School Administration, Manager of Mental Health Services, and outside agencies as needed.

  • Conduct home visits as required.

  • Collaborate with outside agencies to share information and ensure creation of seamless service delivery plans for students.

  • Report school level data monthly to the Manager of Mental Health Services and use data to drive support of students on caseload.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Manager of Mental Health Students or School Director.




Education and Experience: Must have a Masters or Doctorate degree in Social Work or Counseling. A minimum of two years clinical experience with preference for clinical practice in a school based setting required. Candidate must be licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners (LMSW or LCSW) or Licensed Professional Board of Counselors Examiners (PLPC or LPC) and hold an Ancillary Certificate from the Louisiana Department of Education. License and certification must be maintained based on Louisiana State Board of Social Work or Licensed Professional Board of Counselors and Louisiana Department of Education guidelines. Experience in and clear understanding of school based service delivery required.


Knowledge and Ability Requirements: Must possess ability to deliver integrated clinical services to diverse and challenging populations. Candidate must be energetic, flexible, creative, innovative individual who can develop strengths-based, student-centered support plans which support learning for students. Ability to function as a member of a team is critical. Strong communication  and writing skills are also required. The ability to multi-task, follow-through and work as a member of a multidisciplinary team is required.
