Early Childhood Counselor/Social Worker

Please note that only candidates with a Masters or Doctorate degree in Social Work or Counseling will be considered. A minimum of two years clinical experience with early childhood aged clients required with preference for clinical practice in a school based or infant mental health setting required. Candidate must be licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners or the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.  Candidates must also hold a certificate issued by the Louisiana Department of Education.  License and certification must be maintained based on Louisiana State Board of Social Work, Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board, and Louisiana Department of Education guidelines. Experience in and clear understanding of school based service delivery required.

POSITION DETAILS

ReNEW is seeking an Early Childhood Counselor/Social Worker that will report to the School Leader. The Counselor/Social Worker will perform a wide variety of administrative and clinical duties relative to the overall activities of the special education programs at the Early Childhood Center’s community based sites.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This position is established to serve as part of a team of support for students with exceptionalities enrolled in community based early childhood centers. It is expected that the community-based Counselor/Social Worker will fulfill the following:

  • Serve as community based related service provider for students with exceptionalities who receive counseling/social work services as part of their Individual Education Plan across various early childhood centers.

  • Serve as a member of the pupil appraisal team, participate in eligibility meetings, initial evaluation and re-evaluation meetings as needed

  • Collaborate as an equal member of the IEP team regarding identification, eligibility and integrated service delivery in support of students with disabilities.

  • Utilize research based and culturally sensitive related services support to improve student learning.

  • Responsible for conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and the development of Behavior Intervention Plans for students with disabilities.

  • Responsible for completion of paperwork required for the delivery of services using the electronic database specified by the school district, such as SER, Accelify, School Runner, PowerSchool, etc.; completion of service logs, progress reports, IEPs, progress notes, Medicaid reimbursement forms, social histories, and any other paperwork designated by the school district.

  • Responsible for assisting and collaborating with both general education and special education staff for students on the related service provider caseload.

  • Maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to the provision of special education services; ensure all clinical services adhere to all regulations and align with the ReNEW Schools Clinical Services Manual.

  • Collaborate with students, parents, special and general education staff, Director of Clinical Services, Mental/Behavioral Health Services Coordinator as needed.

  • Provide and update resource list as needed for Director, Family Service Provider, community center counselors/social workers, and families.

  • Conduct home visits as required for students on caseload.

  • Collaborate with outside agencies to share information and ensure creation of seamless service delivery plans for students.

  • Report school level data monthly to the Director of Clinical Services and Mental/Behavioral Health Services Coordinator.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services or School Leader.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education and Experience: Must have a Masters or Doctorate degree in Social Work or Counseling. Knowledge and Ability Requirements: Must possess ability to deliver integrated clinical services to diverse and challenging populations. Candidate must be energetic, flexible, creative, innovative individual who can develop strengths-based, student-centered support plans which support learning for 3 and 4 year old students. Ability to function as a member of a team is critical. Communication skills (both verbal and writing) also required. The ability to multi-task, follow-through and work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team is required. Must have access to transportation to be able to travel among various community centers.
