POSITION DETAILS
This Librarian position is a part-time position with a 30-hour week commitment. School sites may choose to supplement salary and responsibilities to make this position full-time. Site Librarians are committed to ReNEW’s mission of providing a rigorous, college preparatory education for our students from birth to 12th grade.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

At ReNEW Schools, we expect our Site Librarians to ensure the school library supports substantial reading growth and fosters a love of learning amongst students. You’ll maintain a robust library collection reflective of the student population it serves and an active library site serving all grades on campus.

The position is school-based and reports to the Library Operations Coordinator and respective site school director.

At ReNEW Schools, we expect our Site Librarians to:

  • Maintain the school library collection, including leveling and barcoding new books, checking books in and out, reshelving materials, following up with teachers and students about overdue materials, and maintaining circulation records

  • Promote meaningful circulation of library materials and library access across all grade levels

  • Be the resident expert on the ReNEW library software and Fountas & Pinnell leveling systems

  • Train school staff on library software and procedures

  • Ensure library systems and procedures for all collections are followed

  • Maintain a library schedule (30-hour week commitment, at times of day that make the library most available to class visits) and proactively communicate with school teams to ensure library is being utilized and books are circulating

  • Lead the implementation of a strong Accelerated Reader reading incentive program

  • Work with the Library Operations Coordinator to craft yearly library vision and monthly library programs that teachers can access to further drive student academic growth

  • Work with small school leaders to implement reading workshops, book fairs, guest speakers and other high impact events that will help to build a strong culture of reading at ReNEW

  • Communicate availability of ReNEW curriculum collections to teachers

  • Communicate campus book needs to Library Operations Coordinator, proactively seeking out titles that are reflective of the student populations served at site

  • Attend monthly library team meetings and professional development opportunities

  • Conduct end of year site inventory for all of a site’s collections

  • Strong organization and planning skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • The ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and creative problem solving

  • A cooperative and communicative spirit and a prioritization of building relationships with staff and students

  • Passion about literacy and the ability to effectively foster a love of reading in students

  • Previous experience with elementary aged students

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to continuously sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear. Light lifting may be required (up to 20 pounds).
