At ReNEW Schools, we expect our Network Instructional Coaches—as a member of the ReNEW Instructional Team—to ensure teachers and leaders are provided with the resources and systems to achieve ReNEW’s mission, and to empower staff to maximize their individual and collaborative performance.  The Network Instructional Coach does this by effectively coaching teachers, supporting the creation of curricular materials, collecting and sharing resources, archiving resources and best practices for future use, and overseeing the implementation of content professional development.

The position is part of the instructional team and reports to the Director of Curriculum & Instruction of the content area.

At ReNEW Schools, we expect our Network Instructional Coaches to:

  • Use data and classroom observations to identify teachers’ needs and provide coaching and modeling of best-practices for teachers across multiple content areas and grade levels

  • Regularly plan and implement coaching debrief meetings

  • Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative instructional practices through various activities such as:

    • Coaching sessions;

    • Model lessons with pre- and post-discussion/analysis;

    • Content team meetings;

    • All network content cohort meetings

  • Help coordinate and implement the professional learning program, including but not limited to, summer professional learning and on-going professional learning.

  • Collaborate with the school leadership teams to create coaching plans, co-observe, and co-debrief as needed.

  • Support DCIs in design and implementation of network-created curricula materials, including reviewing scope and sequence, network-created assessments, and unit plans.

FLSA Status: Exempt


  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's level degree preferred.
  • Experience effectively leading, managing, and coaching adults.
  • At least 1 year of instructional coaching experience
  • At least 3 years of urban teaching experience with a record of student achievement, experience in school leadership or curriculum design preferred
  • Middle school teaching experience preferred

  • Work ethic – Possesses a strong willingness to work hard and produce significant output with minimal wasted effort. Maintains stable performance when under pressure stress.

  • Organization – Plans, organizes, and schedules in an efficient, productive manner to focus on key priorities.

  • Analytical – Determines opportunities and trends through comprehensive analysis of current student performance trends.  Exhibits a probing mind and achieves penetrating insights.

  • Constant Learning – Often solicits feedback and reacts calmly to criticism or negative feedback.

  • Experience – Experience effectively leading, managing, and coaching adults. At least 3 years of urban teaching experience with a record of student achievement.

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree required, Master's level degree preferred.
